( Previous Days:Collapse )Day 07 - The most heartbreaking scene?
CJ: "Let’s open that bottle of champagne you gave me for my birthday. Maybe the alcohol will balance out the caffeine."
Toby: "CJ, the leak..."
CJ: "Let’s have a toast. One final toast before I leave the White House for my perp walk in leg irons. Here, you open it. I’ll put your eye out."
CJ: "Fine, I’ll open it. But just, uh, listen to what I have to say. Leo’s in trouble."
Toby: "I know."
CJ: "You do?"
Toby: "I got a lawyer."
Toby: "I got a lawyer. I did it."
(CJ looks at him for a moment before setting the champagne bottle down. She gets up and walks behind her desk and picks up the phone.)
CJ: "Call the White House Counsel’s office, send someone over immediately."
Toby: "I just didn’t want you to think..."
CJ: "We really can’t have any further conversation without Counsel present."
Okay, so this was a tough call because believe it or not I tend to ship people who have a lot of angst. But this? This is absolute betrayal. It's not death where one character couldn't control what happened or just general badness, this moment absolutely changed Toby and CJ's relationship forever. And, in my mind, they were never particularly close again after it. That
Runners up for this were Adama putting his ring on Laura's finger just after she died/talking to the sunset (but they got to have a relationship, so that's something,) Mulder's silent-cry by Scully's bed during the cancer arc and Fred dying. For the record, I don't count losing Elizabeth in lifeline as a "shippy" moment. That, to me, is a moment that obviously affects the ship but is so much more about Elizabeth... possibly because I am too attached to her as a character. So. ( Next Days:Collapse )
